In addition to overviewing a number of previously published techniques,
this paper also proposes a new algorithm, where colours are clipped towards
a centre on the lightness axis. This centre is determined for each colour
individually depending on its lightness relative to the gamutís extremes
(Figure 1).

In addition to clipping, a white shift technique like the one described
in Hung (1995) is used. This paper also contains a description of some
very useful gamut visualisation techniques developed by its authors.
